About Presenter: Dr. Branton Shearer completed his undergraduate degree at the age of 28 from Lesley University (B.S.). He then received his master's in Counseling and Consulting Psychology at Harvard University (Ed.M.) and completed his doctoral studies in Neuropsychological Rehabilitation at the Union Institute (Ph.D.), Cincinnati, Ohio. He created the Multiple Intelligences Developmental Assessment Scales (MIDASTM) in 1987 to assist in the rehabilitation of a person recovering from a traumatic brain injury. Since then the MIDASTM has been translated into 12 different languages and used in more than 23 countries as a research-based assessment to further the educational and career development of students and adults.
He works with teachers, schools, and businesses around the world to assist in their efforts to inspire multiple intelligences for everyone. He has worked with many schools in the U.S. as well as around the world: Kent, Tallmadge, and Wooster, Ohio. He also consults with teachers in the Philippines, Ireland, Hong Kong, India, and Singapore.
Abstract: Participants will learn how to maximize memorization, motivation and learning by activating their MI strengths. A model for developing your Self Leadership will be reviewed. Participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of their Intrapersonal intelligence.

The Second UIC Teaching Contest for Young Teachers, 2023
To promote teaching excellence at UIC and nominate outstanding young teachers for the 7th Guangdong Teaching Contest for Young Teachers in 2024, we are pleased to launch the 2023 UIC Teaching Contest for Young Teachers. The theme of this contest is “Deliver a Quality Course.” Detailed requirements, guidelines, and scoring criteria are listed in the attachment. The rubrics are the same as the ones used for the provincial contest.
Eligibility: 1. Teaching staff under age 40 (born after Aug. 31st, 1983). 2. Has at least one year of teaching experience at UIC.
Note: Teaching staff who have won first place in the previous university-wide Teaching Contest for Young Teachers cannot participate in this competition.
How to apply: 1. Non-native Mandarin-speaking teaching staff is highly encouraged to submit the applications in English at the university-wide Contest. Participants are responsible for translating the application materials into Chinese when they are nominated to the provincial Contest. 2. Please pack application materials into a zipped file and send it to ctl@uic.edu.cn. The filename is titled 2023 UIC TCYT + Teacher’s Name (example: 2023 UIC TCYT Arie Jin) by November 6th (Monday), 2023.
Awards: 1. Award certificates and cash prizes will be provided for Grand Prize, First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize, and Honorable Mention. 2. The top 15 participants will be recommended to participate in the contest at the provincial level. The result will be announced around mid-November 2023.
