On April 27, the 6th Brown Bag Teaching Sharing (BBTS) was held in T2-301 by the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). BBTS aims to provide a relaxing and informal environment for teaching staff to exchange ideas and improve their teaching skills through this initiative. This time, we were glad to have Dr. Alisa Wenmeng HE (Assistant Professor, Food Science and Technology Programme, Faculty of Science and Technology) to share her experience on how to engage students in Food Appreciation Course and held a coffee workshop for colleagues to experience. Around 20 colleagues attended this session.
Dr. HE presenting her teaching content
The Food Appreciation Course, taught by Dr. HE, is an elective course for the Food Science and Technology major, covering basic food-related theoretical knowledge. It also involves other cross-filed content, such as food and business, food and culture, food supply chain, etc. The course was rated as a star course by UIC’s students and recognized as a core model course for teaching quality and reformation by Guangdong Province.
Dr. HE first briefly introduced the content and teaching method of Food Appreciation Course to the participants, then welcomed them to experience the procedure of making a hand-brew coffee.

To better engage the participants into the topic, Dr. HE prepared equipment for coffee making and invited them to have a try by themselves, turning the presentation into a small joyful party. The teachers attended took an active part in the practice with the guidance of Dr. HE and had a glimpse into coffee making through interesting interactions with the presenter.
