“Beyond Boundaries” T&L Series Lecture | Encountering Wang Tong: - A Knowledge Transfer from Monograph to Exhibition 广州海事博物馆主办的“遇见黄东:一个清代广州事仔的大世界”展览,主要叙事线索来源于程美宝教授于2021年9月出版的专著《遇见黄东:18—19世纪珠江口的小人物与大世界》。该展览以其专著为基础,放开手脚地用第一人称即老年黄东的口吻,给观众娓娓道来黄东的经历。美国橡泉园林图书馆借出的布莱克船长手稿及其与广州画师麦秀合作的植物绘画,连同博物馆陈设的场景,让不同背景和年龄的观众皆能设身处地沉浸到历史时空,令不少人有“我们都是黄东”之叹。这次展览,堪称为一次“知识转移”的范例。

About the Speaker: Prof. May Bo CHING received her PhD from the University of Oxford and is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Chinese and History at City University of Hong Kong. She also serves as Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at CityU, and is a Distinguished Professor of the Pearl River Scholars Program at Sun Yat-sen University, appointed by the Guangdong Provincial Government. Her research focuses on the socio-cultural history of China, with particular emphasis on the regional history of South China, especially the Pearl River Delta, Hong Kong, and Macau. All staff and students are welcome to join! Light lunch will be provided and audience who participate in the interactive activities will have the opportunity to receive a signed copy of Professor Ching's monograph.

About the Speaker: Prof. Shaoming CHAI is a doctoral advisor at the University of Macau and serves as the Associate Dean of the Aberdeen Institute of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at South China Normal University. His research interests include educational informatization, AI in education, and blended learning. He was also a visiting scholar at the University of Toronto, Canada. Prof. CHAI has led and participated in several national and provincial-level social science projects. He has published over 30 academic papers in core journals both domestically and internationally, and has authored or translated five books. His course Knowledge Building and Collaborative Innovation has been recognized as a National First-Class Undergraduate Blended Course. He has received multiple honors, including the First Prize for Teaching Achievement at the university level and the title of "Distinguished Teaching Professor" at South China Normal University.

Call for Papers | Innovative Teaching and Learning: AI and Education This is an update from the editorial team of BNBU’s pedagogical journal Innovative Teaching and Learning (ITL) for the thematic issue on “AI and Education,” which will appear at the beginning of 2026. Thank you to all who have been in touch; we are still happy to hear expressions of interest.
We are getting in touch to share the 2025 timeline for the publication: • 01 September - submission of first drafts • Mid-October - drafts reviewed & returned • 31 December - submission of revised drafts
The issue is expected to include papers of 4000 to 5000 words addressing the various challenges and opportunities we face regarding integrating AI into our teaching practices, including design, delivery, and assessment. “Reflections on practice” without empirical content are also welcome.
This is a great opportunity to publish a paper in an important field we are all actively engaged with and an effective way to develop ideas for future publications and presentations. Manuscripts can be sent directly to the guest editor Prof. Matthew Sansom from the School of Culture and Creativity at matthewsansom@uic.edu.cn.
