Abstract:Interactive learning involves students in activities rather than watching and listening to a lecturer. Its theoretical basis lies in interaction hypothesis and social and cultural theory. This talk will review learning theories by Chinese and Western educationists and psychologists, and report some findings from empirical research in this area, such as factors affect classroom interaction and learning features of Gen-Z. A number of strategies to conduct teacher-student, student-student, student-computer interactions will be introduced. To keep them engaged in classroom, the students may be called upon to answer questions, solve problems, discuss, debate, reflect, brainstorm, or formulate questions through different channels, working individually or in groups. Carefully planned and properly implemented interactions can promote active learning and increase the extent and quality of students’ achievement of learning outcomes.
