Open Classroom Initiative: Innovative Transdisciplinary Teaching and AI Integration in Education The Open Classroom Initiative (OCI) in Semester 2 of 2024-25 focuses on innovative transdisciplinary teaching and AI integration in education. This semester's OCI offers a unique opportunity to observe and learn from colleagues who are successfully incorporating cross-disciplinary approaches and AI tools in their teaching. By observing, you can explore new strategies that may inspire adaptations in your own teaching practice.

1. Integrating Generative AI in History Education
Instructor: Dr. Xiaolong DIAO (Assistant Professor of FHSS) Course:Traditional East AsiaType: General Education, Multiple Years Date & Time: 9:00 am - 9:50 am, 15 April 2025 (Tue) Description: In this open classroom, peer observers will witness an innovative blend of traditional and modern pedagogical strategies. The session will begin with a conventional lecture introducing John Fairbank's theory of the tributary system, followed by an interactive reading of historical records. The transformative element comes in the form of integrating Generative AI, which will be used to create a simulated WeChat moment. This will allow students to visualize historical events and figures in a relatable, contemporary context. The session concludes with a reflective discussion, encouraging critical thinking as students compare their interpretations with Fairbank's original proposition.
2. Using Intelligent Feedback for TESOL Research Design
Instructor: Dr. Edith Mei-Yee YAN (Associate Professor of FHSS, Educational Developer of CTL) Course: Research Skills in Language Studies and TESOL Type: Major Required, Year 3 Date & Time: 8:00 am - 8:50 am, 17 April 2025 (Thu) Description: This session showcases AI-assisted instruction in research methodology teaching, focusing on constructing a Triangulation Matrix for Final Year Projects. Students are required to submit their matrices to customized AI chatbots in Bytewise for feedback and assessment. The AI system evaluates research questions, data collection methods, methodological alignment, and feasibility according to a structured rubric. In this session, through instructor-led examples and guided group practice, students will learn to interpret AI feedback and refine their research designs. This approach enhances formative assessment, provides personalized guidance, and develops students' critical engagement with AI tools as part of their academic skill development in TESOL research.
3. Art in the Cyberspace
Instructor: Dr. Ioannis BARDAKOS (Assistant Professor of SCC) Course: History of Media Arts and Design Type: Major Elective, Multiple Years Date & Time: 10:00 am - 10:50 am, 23 April 2025 (Wed) Description: A noetic-peripatetic journey through ideas concepts and events that describe an era in technology society and art/design processes.
Certificate of Participation: Observers who complete the Observation Feedback Form after at least one session will receive a certificate acknowledging their commitment to peer development.

To enhance the teaching innovation capabilities and actively prepare for the 5th National Innovative Teaching Contest, the Guangdong Provincial Higher Education Society will hold the first workshop on April 7, 2025, in Guangzhou.
Contents:
On-site expert presentations, explaining how to optimize competition materials;
On-site interaction with experts, one-on-one Q&A, and explanations of important considerations for the competition;
Based on the participants' specialties and tracks, two highly relevant past national competition winners will be selected as training experts.

NOTCUT | "Empowering University Teaching and Discipline Development with Multimodal Large Models – Operational Paradigms Based on Deepseek and Other Multimodal Models (Session 2)" Training Workshop.
This training focuses on the practical applications of large models, including but not limited to Deepseek, Doubao, and others, in various areas such as classroom teaching, talent cultivation, and research writing. The course will provide a detailed analysis of the features and applicable scenarios of different large models, with a particular focus on how frontline teachers can use these models to enhance teaching efficiency and quality.
Duration Time: 19 – 20 April 2025 Location: Changsha, Hunan
Note:
This training is divided into two modes: offline intensive face-to-face sessions and online learning. The fee for the offline intensive face-to-face training is 1480 yuan per person; the fee for online learning, which involves communication and discussion through the online training system, is 600 yuan per person.
Teachers who complete all training content and pass the evaluation will be awarded a certificate of completion and can count the training hours towards continuing education credits.
