The 4th Annual Conference & University Presidents Forum

为进一步推进高水平教育对外交流合作,助力我省高等学校中外合作办学高质量发展,加快建设粤港澳大湾区国际教育示范区,更好地发挥中外合作办学在建设教育强国中的作用。决定于2024年12月14日于我校举办广东省高等教育学会中外合作办学研究分会第四届学术研讨会暨校长论坛。

To further promote high-level international educational exchanges and cooperation, advance the high-quality development of Chinese-Foreign cooperative education programs in Guangdong province, accelerate the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as an international education demonstration zone, and better leverage the role of Chinese-Foreign cooperative education in building a strong educational nation, the 4th Academic Symposium and Presidents’ Forum of the Branch for Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools is scheduled to be held on December 14 at UIC.

AI Empowers Education 8 | Powerful Synergy: Combining Generative AI and Human Intelligence to Enhance Educational Quality

Facilitator: Dr. Angus CHEONG (President of the Macau Association for Internet Research (MAIR) and Founder of eRS Solutions & uMax Data Technology)

Angus CHEONG obtained his Ph.D. in Communication from Hong Kong Baptist University and served as a faculty member at the University of Macau for 13 years. In 2009, he founded a company dedicated to developing AI-driven and data-powered tools and solutions for academic and commercial applications. He currently serves as the President of the Macau Association for Internet Research (MAIR) and is a member of the think tank for the World Internet Conference, positioning as a pioneer in internet research and practices.

In this workshop, the speaker will demonstrate ByteWise, an in-house Gen AI chatbot customization platform, jointly developed by the Language Centre and the Department of Computer Science at HKBU. Main features of this platform include
Teachers can write system prompts to "programme" a chatbot in natural languages to engage students interactively
Students' chat histories are accessible by teachers with their consent (by default)
Costs of accessing premium Large Language Models are covered by the university projects at an affordable rate

TALES 14 | Nurturing Communication in the Digital Era

Abstract:
In this workshop, speakers from three universities will share their thoughts and experiences in nurturing communication amidst the advent of AI and other digital tools. They will, for example, share how AI can enable interactions, how to foster intercultural communication, and the use of scenarios to stimulate reflection on ethics of using AI for translation.

The use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in learning and teaching (Prof Ji Won KIM)
This presentation explores the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in learning and teaching. I will examine the questions of whether and how AI tools can be integrated into education, particularly discussing how AI can enable forms of interaction in learning and learning. Furthermore, I will discuss ethics and transparency related to the use of AI.

Implementing COIL activities for an undergraduate level course on intercultural communication (Dr Chaak Ming LAU)
The sharing will cover my personal experience in implementing student activities for a UG-level course on intercultural communication under the umbrella of collaborative online international learning (COIL), and some success stories reflected in the students' active use of digital tools and communication technique in the process.

Generative AI and Translation: Scenario-Based AR Learning Trails for Ethical Practices and Integrity (Dr Luis Damián MORENO GARCÍA)
This presentation aims at sharing our experiences developing scenario-based AR learning trails for the promotion of ethical practices and integrity when leveraging GenAI for translation purposes. A combination of scenarios forms the trail "Generative AI and Translation", which aims to foster a deeper understanding of translation ethics in the AI era and the responsible use of AI technologies in educational and professional contexts linked to translation.

Application for the China University-Industry Collaborative Innovation Fund: Special Program on Digital Empowerment in Education and Teaching

为促进信息技术与教育深度融合,教育部高等学校科学研究发展中心与辽宁向日葵数字技术股份有限公司、联通(辽宁)产业互联网有限公司联合设立“数字化赋能教育教学专项”,支持高校在数字化赋能人才培养、数字化赋能教师发展、教育数字化转型新兴技术和业务场景研究等方向的科学研究与创新应用,并提供每个课题总经费20万元至50万元的支持,其中研究经费10万元至25万元。

To promote the deep integration of information technology and education, the Higher Education Research and Development Center of the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Liaoning Sunflower Digital Technology Co., Ltd. and Unicom (Liaoning) Industrial Internet Co., Ltd., has jointly established the "Special Program on Digital Empowerment in Education and Teaching." This program supports scientific research and innovative applications in areas such as digital empowerment for talent cultivation, digital empowerment for teacher development, emerging technologies, and business scenario studies in educational digital transformation. Each project will receive total funding of 200,000 to 500,000 RMB, including research funding ranging from 100,000 to 250,000 RMB.
