Stay Hungry: Meal with Your Professor
取贤于师,共享食光! 快和教授约饭吧!


We are pleased to announce that the Meal-with-Your-Professor program (MYP), co-organized by the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) & Students Affairs Office (SAO), will be launched from 4 November  (Monday) to 15 November (Friday) 2024.

The purpose of the MYP program is to provide you with opportunities to have a conversation with your professor over the meal/coffee time. You could take advantage of this program to discuss possible career options, research opportunities, as well as seek general academic and life advice!

Guidelines: ONE to THREE students can invite ONE professor (faculty teaching staff
) to meal/have coffee with them at the following campus locations: Faculty Club (贤贤居) / CHIAS Coffee (文创咖啡馆) / For You (浮屿)  between 4 November (Mon) to 15 November (Fri) 2024. Students are responsible for inviting a professor and informing him/her about the meeting time and place.

AI Empowers Education 6 | AI Assisted PPT and Video Creation 人工智能助力PPT及视频制作

Abstract: Dr. Chunyan JI, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at UIC, with primary research interests in deep learning, bioinformatics, and sound event detection. Recipient of the 2015 UIC President's Award for Teaching and Service; Outstanding Teacher of South China in 2015; Third Prize in the Fifth National University Hybrid Teaching Design Innovation Competition in 2023; Third Prize in the Fourth National University Teachers' Teaching Innovation Competition Guangdong Regional Contest in 2024.


In this workshop, Dr. JI will discuss how artificial intelligence (AI) technologies can assist in PPT and Video creation. AI can help with content planning, text generation, design templates, scripts writing, auto-text VTT file generation, etc., streamlining the PPT and video production process. The audiences can learn the current development status of PPT/Video AI generators and use them to improve work efficiency in the future.

Third Excellence in Higher Education Research Awards

To promote the development of higher education research in Guangdong Province, encourage higher education professionals to engage in research on higher education theory and practice, and advance high-quality development in this field, the Guangdong Higher Education Society has recently launched the selection process for the Third Excellence in Higher Education Research Awards.

The main application requirements are as follows:
The completion date for eligible research results must be between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2024.

  • Eligible research results must primarily be completed by higher education professionals in Guangdong Province. Individually completed works are limited to one submission, while an additional submission is allowed for collaborative works (jointly submitted by the top two or three authors).

  • Submissions fall into the categories of academic papers, academic publications, and research reports or other types. Academic papers include higher education research papers published in publicly accessible journals; academic publications include monographs, edited volumes, translations, reference books, and classical texts (excluding textbooks and paper collections); research reports and other types include higher education investigation or consultancy reports endorsed and adopted by the county (city, district) level or higher by party committees, government officials, or their departments.

TALES 12 | Designing Authentic Assessments to Enhance Students’ Learning in Higher Education

Abstract: Authentic assessment plays a pivotal role in measuring students’ academic and non-academic outcomes. More importantly, well-designed authentic assessment tasks and associated rubrics can be seamlessly integrated into teachers’ instructional and assessment practices to promote students’ interest and engagement. In the webinar, the presenter will begin with an introduction to the concept of authentic assessment and its meaningful connection to formative assessment and problem-based learning to enhance students’ learning in higher education institutions. It will then be followed by a discussion of the design principles for authentic assessment and the criteria for judging and determining the authentic intellectual quality of assessment tasks. Examples of authentic assessment tasks and rubrics from research and teaching will also be shared. At the end of the session, the presenter will provide recommendations for improving instructors’ assessment literacy, in particular authentic assessment task design and implementation. Audience members will then be invited to share their perspectives.

Call for Participation | 13th Quarterly Project Meeting on Sustainable Development in Higher Education

To continuously support the development of high-quality, professional new teacher development programs in higher education institutions, the association has concentrated on discussions about new teacher development over the past two years and has achieved several outcomes. Accordingly, this meeting will summarize the outstanding practical experiences related to new teacher development from recent years and will discuss and forecast the key issues that should be prioritized for new teacher development in universities moving forward. Additionally, this meeting will announce the list of universities recognized in the association's selection of outstanding new teacher development cases and invite the recognized universities to share their experiences in new teacher development.
