Sharing | Brown Bag Teaching Sharing Session 10

Taking place in T2-202, the 10th Brown-Bag Teaching Sharing (BBTS) was hosted by Edith Yan from the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) on Thursday, April 25. The session featured Dr Yegor GREBNEV, an Assistant Professor of Chinese Culture and Global Communication at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, as the distinguished presenter. Dr GREBNEV presented his insight and method on how to make teaching more interactive in the Chinese context. This sharing session attracted 215 online audience members and 5 teaching staff to communicate with the presenter on site.

Dr GREBNEV engaged the audience by sharing differences in teaching context between China and other countries, and shared various methods and tools for interacting with students in Chinese classroom settings. His discussion focused on using various tools to increase student interactivity, particularly within the Chinese context, where students might feel stressed about sharing their opinions orally. He displayed online presentation tools and co-editing tools, as well as his method of employing such teaching tools by drawing on empirical cases in his class. During the discussion, participants from various departments actively engaged with Dr GREBNEV, asking questions and sharing their experiences about the tools and their views on engaging with students in class.

BBTS serves as an open platform for all teaching staff in UIC to share their teaching experiences and insights. CTL encourages and welcomes faculty members to register themselves as presenters and participate in fostering a culture of teaching and learning excellence at UIC.
