Dr. Branton Shearer Giving Lecture on “How to Develop Your Multiple Talents: Lifelong Learning and Leadership”

On October 17, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) hosted an enlightening lecture by Dr. Branton Shearer “How to Develop Your Multiple Talents? Lifelong Learning and Leadership” at T6-104 and online. The event saw an enthusiastic turnout, with more than 65 students and staff attending and nearly 500 joining the live broadcast keenly seeking insights into tapping their potential and fostering lifelong learning.

Throughout his presentation, Dr. Shearer shared the methods to maximize memorization, motivation and learning by harnessing one’s unique Multiple Intelligence (MI) strengths and presented a model for developing Self-Leadership, highlighting its important role in achieving lifelong learning. His emphasis on the significance of Intrapersonal intelligence left the audience with a deeper understanding of it.


Dr. Branton Shearer is a renowned clinical neuropsychologist. His academic journey led him to Harvard University, where he completed his master's in Counseling and Consulting Psychology, and later, he attained his Ph.D. In Neuropsychological Rehabilitation at the Union Institute. He created the Multiple Intelligences Developmental Assessment Scales, or MIDAS, which illuminated paths for people across 23 countries, aiding in educational and career development, and assisting in rehabilitating individuals recovering from traumatic brain injuries.

Besides, Dr. Shearer shared the methods for participants to learn how to tailor their learning strategies to their individual MI strengths, allowing for more effective and personalized learning experiences, as well as the techniques to activate Intrapersonal skills on a daily basis, promoting self-awareness and emotional intelligence.

Feedback from participants was positive. After the lecture, students, staff, and the online audience delved into further discussion about the topic. Dr. Yi-Lung Kuo presented a souvenir to Dr. Shearer as the representative of CTL.
