On 22 September 2023, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) hosted an interactive sharing workshop at T2-302, featuring Dr. Katrine K. Wong as the presenter. Dr. Wong is the Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning Enhancement at the University of Macau. She is also a Principal Fellow of Advance HE (PFHEA) and an Associate Professor in the areas of English Renaissance Drama and Life Narratives. Five teachers attended the sharing at the spot, and six teachers joined online.
Using her Literature course as an example, Dr. Wong briefly introduced the course components, discussed the students’ needs, and highlighted the changes in these components over these years. She addressed the potential impact of AI generators, particularly ChatGPT, on students learning. As a facilitator of Literature teaching, she required her students to use ChatGPT to generate a paragraph or an article and then critique the texts. This kind of assignment might help learners realize that the outputs of AI generators are not 100% correct.
During the workshop, Dr. Wong shared her experiences on how the Theater Practice could help students understand the literature. She gave teachers a draft of literature from Macbeth and asked three teachers to play three roles in the text, mirroring the approach she engaging her students in real teaching.
Subsequently, teachers engaged in further discussions with Dr. Wong about using the Theater Practice to facilitate the teaching and learning of Literature. They also raised questions concerning what teachers should focus on in future teaching.
