Academic Writing Workshop丨Case Study: Practical Strategy for Academic Writing

On 5 May, 2022, the fourth Academic Writing Workshop in semester 2 of 2021-2022 was held by the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) in T6-105. This time we were delighted to have Dr. Felicia Fan as our guest speaker. The theme of this workshop was Case Study: Practical Strategy for Academic Writing. Around 25 audiences in total presented at scene.


Dr. Fan, earning her Ph.D. in Communication from Hong Kong Baptist University, newly joined UIC in fall 2021. She is an Assistant Professor from the Division of Culture and Creativity, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Notably, Dr. Fan is the reviewer for the international peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Marketing Communications, Young Consumers and Media Asia. Furthermore, she is also the reviewer for the annual conference of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and the International Conference on Research in Advertising.


Dr. Fan sharing her experience


During the workshop, Dr. Fan shared the audience with some hands-on experience about how to draft journal articles in a reader-friendly way. Questions about how to start academic writing, how to draft journal articles in a structured way, and how to find a good editor to proofread research papers were addressed in this workshop. Meanwhile, some useful applications were recommended to facilitate academic writing.

After Dr. Fan shared solid case studies, the audiences asked questions based on their writing experiences. Hands-on advices were learned by participants.
