We are pleased to announce that the Induction Program for all new teaching staff members, including teaching support staff, joining UIC during the Academic Year 2023-2024 is launched. The aim of this Program is to help new colleagues get familiar with outcomes-based teaching and learning, strategies for digital learning and teaching, pedagogical knowledge, and teaching support at UIC.
The following Induction Program workshops will be conducted between 6-8 September 2023.

The widespread adoption of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) has a profound impact on the field of education, offering immense potential while posing unique challenges and ethical considerations, particularly in assessment. In response to these concerns, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has recently introduced a comprehensive set of policies and guidelines: “Principles for the Use of Generative AI Tools in Teaching and Learning, and Assessment” and “Advisory Guidelines Pertaining to the Use of Generative AI Tools in Assessed Assignment Tasks.” This open discussion aims to provide an informative overview of these documents, exploring the key issues, implications and the potential for developing similar policies and guidelines in the UIC.

Abstract:
This workshop will explore the convergence of Outcomes Based Teaching and Learning (OBTL), authentic assessment and the integration of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. Principles and advantages of OBTL, with a specific focus on designing clear and measurable learning outcomes, will be discussed. We will also delve into the crucial role of authentic assessment in promoting student engagement while emphasising the importance of providing useful feedback and fostering student reflection to enhance the learning and assessment processes.
Furthermore, we will explore various tools and applications of generative AI that facilitate student creativity and problem-solving. Through reflective discussions, we will consider the potential benefits and limitations of using generative AI in assessments, and how it correlates with OBTL and authentic assessment.
