Abstract:
Just before his departure from UIC, at the end of the 2021-2022 academic year, Dr. Huggins conducted psychometric research with international staff teaching at various institutions in Zhuhai. Dr. Huggins will present his findings, concerning factors related to emotional exhaustion and detachment. His results highlight the distinct roles played by well-managed demands and the coherence of working life within Zhuhai´s universities and schools. He will discuss the danger of auto-diagnosing burnout syndrome without professional guidance. Dr. Huggins will also link the results to recommendations for both international teaching staff and their employers, towards maintaining the valuable contributions that international teachers can make to their host institutions.
