Teachers and students pose with a big "YAY", capturing the warmest moment of Teachers' Day at BNBU

Outside CHIAS Coffee, the mix of camera shutters, joyful laughter, and good wishes wove together into the warmest melody of autumn.

“Teacher gives you a big "YAY!” — This cheerful phrase spread across the BNBU campus on September 9, 2025. The special Teachers’ Day event “Frame with Your Professor”, organized by the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) was a tremendous success. In just five hours, over 300 faculty and students participated, making it one of the most attended holiday events on campus.

President Prof. Chen Zhi, Associate Vice President Prof. Huang Yu, Academic Registrar Prof. Li Jianhui, and deans from Faculties/Schools stepped away from their work to join in this event with students. They smiled brightly and struck playful “YAY” sign together for photos. In these moments, laughter and warmth melted away traditional boundaries between teachers and students.

Creative Shots, Shared Smiles

At the dedicated photo booth, teachers and students stood side by side, breaking away from the traditional teacher-student dynamic and connecting through shared laughter and playful gestures. The camera captured a wave of playful poses and beaming smiles, turning these moments into the most vibrant scenery on campus this autumn.

"Normally, our teachers teach from the front, and we listen from our seats." a second-year student remarked with a smile as she waited for her photo to print. "But getting to invite my professor to a fun “YAY” sign today felt so refreshing—it bridged the distance between us."

The instant photo prints, set in exclusive Teachers’ Day frames, became a heartfelt bond between teachers and students. Many faculty members put the photos in their offices right away — a genuine token of appreciation they deeply valued, carrying the warmth of their students' gratitude.

A New Way to Honor Teachers

Breaking away from conventional gestures, CTL reimagined Teachers’ Day this year through interactive and lighthearted engagement, bringing a renewed meaning of gratitude in education. True education extends beyond knowledge transfer—it thrives on heartfelt connection. This activity allowed teachers and students to connect in a natural and cheerful way, showing the spirit of whole-person education at BNBU.

The atmosphere was filled with the rich aroma of coffee and the sound of cheerful conversations. Special beverages prepared by CTL added an extra layer of warmth to the occasion. Many teachers said that it was among the most unique and memorable Teachers’ Day celebrations they had ever been a part of.

Moments that Hold Meaning

Each photo held a real moment between teachers and students—from cheerful “YAY” signs with professors to group shots with research teams full of laughter.

A student from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences shared: “The photo with my supervisor felt completely natural—both of us were smiling from the heart. This kind of casual moment means so much more than a formal portrait because it captures our real connection.”

“Seeing students so enthusiastically asking to take photos together and hearing their sincere ‘Happy Teachers’ Day’ made all the hard work feel truly worthwhile,” emotionally remarked by one professor with over ten years of teaching experience at BNBU.

Preparation: Thoughtful Details

The success of this event was made possible with thoughtful effort from CTL. Every detail—from the arrangement of the dedicated photo zones to the design of the limited-edition frames—reflected our commitment to create a meaningful experience.

“We aim to create a joyful and authentic memory for both teachers and students in a relaxed setting,” shared by Dr. Vivien Chan, Director of CTL. “A simple “YAY” sign can bring people closer. That’s what today is about.”

While photographs may fade over time, the connections and memories they preserve only grow richer with each passing year.

Looking ahead, CTL will continue to pioneer innovative events and build more platforms for teacher-student interaction, ensuring that education continues to thrive in an atmosphere of warmth and joy, and that a culture of gratitude remains deeply rooted across our campus.
