On December 4, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) invited Prof. Leonard J. Waks, Professor Emeritus of Educational Leadership at Temple University and the past president of the John Dewey Society, to deliver a lecture titled “My Learning Journey Has No End”. The lecture attracted 54 students and staff, and nearly 400 people watched the live broadcast, leaving the audience with a renewed sense of curiosity and an appreciation for the ever-evolving landscape of education.

Throughout the lecture, Prof. Waks began by recounting his early years, describing a period of dissatisfaction with academic philosophy and a subsequent journey of introspection. He shared his exploration of stoicism and Chinese Buddhism, although initially separate from his academic pursuits, eventually became integral to his work in both philosophy and education. The shift from academic philosophy to educational studies marked a pivotal moment in Prof. Waks' career, as he found ways to bridge the gap between philosophical criticism and practical educational endeavors. His deep dive into the philosophy of John Dewey became a unifying thread, bringing together the diverse strands of his intellectual exploration into a cohesive whole.
