CTL T&L Lecture -Applications of Mathematical Theories in Educational Toys given by Mr. Zunyou Li

On 21 June 2021, Mr. Zunyou Li presented on the “Applications of Mathematical Theories in Educational Toys” for the Centre for Teaching and Learning.The Vice President (Academic) Prof. Huaxiong Huang welcomed and introduced Mr. Li at the beginning of the lecture.

Mr. Zunyou Li is a member of the expert group of the Youth Innovative Thinking Research Center of the Chinese Education Society, a STEAM activity consultant of local school in Wuhan, a designer of educational math toys and a participant in the Mathematics Laboratory Project of the Ministry of Education. For decades, Mr. Zunyou Li has explored and transformed Chinese traditional puzzle games from the perspective of mathematics and aesthetics and designed a series of puzzle math games.
In the lecture, Mr. Zunyou Li shared his views on applications of mathematical theories in developing educational toys. He taught the audience how to play Chinese traditional puzzle games (Tangram, Luban Lock, Huarong Road, etc.), which exercised their mathematical thinking. Attendees were impressed by the broad and profound applications of Mr Li’s educational toys.

Throughout the lecture Mr. Li interacted with the audience and cheerfully answered their questions. During the Q&A session, he gave a lively further demonstration of the educational toys.

At the end of the lecture, Prof. Huang presented a UIC souvenir to Mr. Li, as an expression of gratitude for the enlightening presentation.
