On 9 June, 2022, a sharing of Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellowship Application was held in T7-304 by the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL). We were delighted to have Mr. Alexander Mark James as the speaker. Mr. James shared with the audiences his hands-on application experiences and tips, and why the FHEA Fellowship is a worthwhile part of teachers’ continuous professional development. Nearly 20 audiences attended the sharing.
Similar to the Teaching Certificate in Higher Education certified by Ministry of Education of China (高校教师资格证), the Fellowship of Higher Education Academy certified by Advance HE is an international teaching qualification for individuals teaching in higher education. It is an international recognition of teaching performance.
Mr. Alexander Mark James is the first colleague who has been certified as a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA) during his service at UIC. He joined UIC in 2010 and currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in the English Language Centre. His research interest focuses on the affective processes of language learning. That is how motivation, goal setting, emotional self-regulation, and self-image affect language learning efficacy.
Mr. James sharing his experiences
During the sharing, Mr. James guided the audiences to review their own professional practices and made a heated discussion among audiences. He advised that “applying for the fellowship is a process and a great opportunity to review and reflect your college teaching practices based on the UK Professional Standards Framework.”
Mr. James joining the discussion with the audiences
As the first full-scale cooperation in higher education between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, UIC practices education of international standards. Hope in the future, there will be more and more colleagues in UIC whose teaching performance could be internationally recognized.
