About Dr Damien TOMASELLI

Dr. Damien Tomaselli is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Film, Television and New Media in 2024. His areas of research concentrate on multiple forms of visual narratives which are lodged within a cinematic anchor. He has authored various journal articles and book chapters on topics such as spatial and temporal aspects of film, semiotics of virtual reality. He is a multi-discipline visual storytelling and academic. He has also worked on Madefire motion books, virtual reality experiences, and augmented reality comics. Dr Tomaselli is associated with several organizations, including VIAD (Visual Identities & Design) at The University of Johannesburg and is a fellow of The International Communicology Institute, as well as an Early Career Scholar Chair for the International Association of Semiotic Studies (IASS). Dr. Tomaselli has a trans-media portfolio of engagements with creative work as a director, screenwriter, cinematographer, editor, actor in fields of theatre, film, comic books. His work has been exhibited at events such as San Diego Comic- Con, Comic Con Africa, and Rage Gaming Expo. Dr Tomaselli has presented his research at various international conferences. His filmography includes several award- winning short-films.
