Abstract
This workshop gives an inside perspective on the review process that takes place after you have submitted your academic paper to a journal. What is a good and bad journal? What does an editor look for? How are the reviewers selected? Why does the process take so long? Does rejection mean my paper is no good? Should I resubmit elsewhere? How minor are minor revisions? How major are major revisions? Can I disagree with a reviewer’s comments? If you have ever asked yourself questions like this, this workshop is for you. The workshop will draw upon Professor Corbett’s experience as a journal editor, and use case studies of articles before and after the review process.
About the Speaker
Prof. John Corbett is a Professor in the English Language and Literature Studies programme. He has published widely on literature and linguistics: books, chapters and journal articles. For five years he edited the top quartile, SSCI-indexed journal Language and Intercultural Communication (Taylor & Francis), and he continues, on occasion, to co-edit special issues as a guest editor. He has always had an interest in academic writing, and he developed blended courses in English for Medicine and English for Agriculture for research students, while he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil.
